8–12 September 2025
Water as a resource and bodies of water as an ecosystem
–
from conflict to synergy
Dear limnologists, dear DGL and SIL members,
The German Society for Limnology (DGL) cordially invites you to the 40th Annual Meeting of the DGL, which will take place in Frankfurt am Main from September 8 to 12, 2025. Together with the Goethe University Frankfurt (conference venue) and Senckenberg as local organizers, we look forward to welcoming you to the Riedberg campus.
This year's motto is: “Water as a resource and water bodies as an ecosystem - from conflict to synergy”.
More than ever, water bodies are caught between the conflicting demands of various uses and the preservation of their ecological functions. The increasing demand for water in agriculture, industry and urban development meets the need to protect aquatic ecosystems and their biodiversity. At the same time, climate change, new pollutant inputs and invasive species are having an increasing impact on the quality and resilience of our water bodies.
Our conference aims to show ways to achieve synergy by bringing together innovative solutions, proven approaches and interdisciplinary research. Dialogue between science, practice and politics is essential in order to defuse conflicts of use and promote sustainable water management.
DGL 2025 provides a forum for presenting and discussing the latest findings from limnology and related disciplines. Special attention is paid to the promotion of young scientists and networking between research, authorities, engineering offices and industry.
We look forward to welcoming you in September 2025!
